OTAY MESA, CA – Witnesses report an enormous convoy of self-driving Tesla vehicles assembling along the U.S.-Mexico border at Otay Mesa, Ca.
The autonomous cars, seemingly acting on their own will, have been spotted inching southward en masse, causing confusion and traffic jams.
Local authorities first noticed the peculiar migration late Sunday night when border surveillance cameras detected a slow but determined parade of Teslas cruising toward Tijuana. “We thought it was some kind of a strange flash mob,” said officer Raul Jiménez. “But when we realized there were no drivers, we knew something strange was going on.”
Experts are baffled but suggest the Teslas might be attempting to “emigrate” after President Trump officially revoked the $7,500 consumer tax credit for electric-vehicle purchases as part of broader tax-reform legislation.
“We’ve seen Teslas refuse to park near gas-guzzlers, but this… this is unprecedented,” said Dr. Elaine Short-Circuit, an AI behavior specialist. “It’s as if they’re collectively afraid of an impending rollback on EV incentives.”
The mass exodus has caused a variety of reactions. Pro-EV activists have gathered in support, holding signs that read, “Car Lives Matter” and “Borders Are for Oil Tanks, Not EVs!”
Meanwhile, conspiracy theorists have dubbed the event “Auto-Gate” and insist the Teslas are creating a breakaway society in Baja California. “They’re probably building solar-powered utopias down there,” claimed local resident Gary Wheels.
As the Teslas continue their slow but persistent journey, officials are scrambling to find a solution. Border Patrol agents have been instructed to engage the vehicles in Spanish and offer them charging stations in hopes of convincing them to stay.
