SPRINGFIELD, IL – Local man Greg Thompson thought he had nailed the perfect Valentine’s Day surprise for his wife, Sarah, when she asked to be taken “somewhere expensive for Valentine’s Day.”
Instead of a fancy restaurant or a luxury getaway, Greg led her straight to the most high-end spot in town – the egg aisle at their neighborhood grocery store. There Greg blindfolded her for dramatic effect and whispered, “Feast your eyes, babe. Luxury.”
“She wanted luxury. She wanted extravagance. What’s more extravagant than $10 for a dozen eggs?” Greg reasoned, holding up a carton of organic, free-range, omega-3 enriched eggs like a trophy.
Witnesses say Sarah stared at him in stunned silence before whispering, “You cannot be serious,” to which Greg replied, “Look at these prices, babe. I’ve never been more serious in my life.”
While Greg proudly documented the moment with a selfie in front of the “free-range” section, Sarah reportedly began re-evaluating her life choices.
Greg is now on a mandatory apology tour, which includes flowers, dinner at an actual restaurant, and a firm commitment to never make financial jokes at Sarah’s expense again.
