LINCOLN, NE – A young couple from Lincoln, NE, Mark and Lisa Thompson, has started a GoFundMe campaign to buy a dozen eggs after grocery store prices reached “absolutely ridiculous levels.”
The couple, who describe themselves as “just two humble breakfast lovers,” say they were left with no choice but to seek public assistance after discovering that their usual $3 carton of eggs now costs more than a fancy brunch at a five-star restaurant.
“We thought there was a pricing error,” Lisa said, wiping away a tear. “But then we checked another store… and another… and the price just kept going up. We knew inflation was bad, but we never expected eggs to become a luxury item.”
“I mean, are these chickens being fed gold dust?” Mark added that he briefly considered bartering with a local farmer, but after realizing he had nothing of value to trade, he turned to crowdfunding instead,” Mark added.
So far, their campaign, titled “Help Us Crack This Crisis,” has raised an impressive $87- that us enough to buy nearly a dozen eggs, if they’re lucky.
“We’re overwhelmed by the support,” Mark said. “People really understand the struggle. We even had someone donate a single egg, which we’re keeping in a velvet-lined box for a special occasion.”
The Thompsons remain hopeful. “We’re just taking it one egg at a time,” Lisa said.
The couple plans to document their first omelet-making experience on social media, assuming they can afford cooking oil next.
Despite the results of the ongoing egg fundraiser, the Thompsons are already planning to launch a second fundraiser for bacon.
