NEW ORLEANS, LA – Many are calling it a “subtle but not-so-subtle” move, when musician Jon Batiste made sure to repeat the phrase “Land of the Free” not once, not twice, but three times during his rousing rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner at Super Bowl LIX yesterday.
As the final note rang out across Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, cameras caught several government officials in attendance looking around uncomfortably, as if suddenly questioning whether the phrase applied to them.
Sources close to Batiste claim the Grammy-winning artist had originally planned a standard performance but decided to add the extra repetitions after realizing certain members of the Trump administration might need a little help grasping the concept.
“We just wanted to make sure the message got through,” said one anonymous bandmate. “If they still don’t get it, we might have to start using flashcards.”
During Batiste’s performance several Trump officials stared just blankly at the field. “Still buffering…” and “When you realize he means everyone” were the comments heard from the visitors attending the venue.
