MOSCOW, RUSSIA – Kremlin insiders reported today that Russian President Vladimir Putin is feeling “mildly embarrassed” by the sheer volume of concessions made by former U.S. President Donald Trump during their past interactions.
According to sources, Putin privately admitted that it’s becoming “awkward” to keep up appearances when his opponent seems so eager to lose.
Speaking at an informal gathering of Russian officials, Putin allegedly sighed and confessed, “At first, I thought he was playing some clever strategy. But after the third time he offered me huge concessions ‘just in case I ever wanted those,’ I realized… this might be who he really is.”
Sources say the Russian leader has now instructed his team to tone down the smug grins during joint press conferences.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov confirmed the shift in strategy, telling reporters, “President Putin has decided that future interactions with Mr. Trump might include less humiliating requirements for him, at least we think that might happen.”
“We want to maintain the illusion of diplomatic balance. Besides, it’s no fun when they give up before the negotiations start. But of course, who knows what and how president Putin might feel tomorrow,” Peskov mumbled.
Trump, when reached for comment, stated, “Vladimir is a terrific guy, one of the best. If he’s embarrassed, it’s only because I’m making deals that no one’s ever made before. Everyone says so.”
